Week 5 Work Review

This week required a lot of technical considerations, the main aim of the week was to create an exhibition plan both individually and as a group. We had a group discussion on where we think the exhibition would work the best. Upon discussions with our supervisors, it seems as if the available locations as of now would be the white room and cluain mhuire hall.

As a group, we discussed the pros and cons of the rooms in preparation for our room survey plans next week where we will measure both rooms to decipher which would be the best for us as a collective.

As preparation to create a sample exhibition space I researched exhibition curation and had looked into exhibition designs that appealed to me and the topic of my project. We were all advised to look at graduate exhibitions from other institutes around the country.

This provided a good insight into the look and feel of a graduate degree exhibition. From that research, I put together a mood board based on the elements I would like to include in my exhibition. I liked the look of open spaces and using light manipulation to cast shadows or projecting images on the project.

After creating a mood board it made it easier to begin designing an exhibition plan. I was initially drawn towards using minimal colour, for example, using white or Perspex plinths to display the book (if the final piece is a book), and a plinth either side of that with the mannequin busts on them. The display would be backed with posters.

As this is an initial exhibition plan, the layout and content is more than likely going to change along the way. This plan is to give a general idea of the look and feel of the exhibition and what space is ideally required.

Towards the end of the week, we all spent a lot of time tying up the loose ends of our project so far as to be prepared for the review next week. I prepared my elevator pitch for the guest that is attending next week and had printed out all my imagery and required documents to curate my wall for the review at the end of next week.

Although we have a review next week I will still need to keep progressing with the project. I have all my interview/survey questions ready to be reviewed and made into a digital survey to be sent out online.
