This week I spent most of my time studying the survey results and mindmaps and generating them into mood boards. After last week I had created mindmaps for each participant based on their responses to my questionnaire.
From each mindmap, I was then able to create a mood board. The purpose of the mood board is to provide a good visual reference for designing the tattoos. The mood boards consist of the keywords which were selected in the mind mapping process.
They also contain imagery references in regard to the participant's individual responses to the question " If you were to have a tattoo designed for you based on your journey what would be important elements to be included in the design?". I believe this will help greatly when it comes to designing tattoos for the participants.
From the surveys, I was also able to compile a general mind map of the initial feelings the women felt once they were first diagnosed. I felt this was important as we can see the effects the diagnosis had on the women.
Therefore I was able to use this as pain points for designing the posters, tattoos, and books. The aim is to show support, empower these women and show them how strong they are especially after the journey they have gone through, to show them how tattoos can be beautiful and help in the mental healing process and maybe as a subconscious or secondary aim the project may encourage other women to go get checked for peace of mind.
I found some more brilliant breast cancer campaign posters on Behance and Pinterest the use of illustration I think works brilliantly and the wittiness of the posters take that clinical edge off whilst remaining a very poignant concept which gets the point across effectively.
Now that the mind maps and mood boards have been generated I will be able to move on with the process of designing tattoos for each participant. I will begin this next week, I will also reach out to a tattoo artist to see if they could provide more insight into designing tattoos to cover scars.
