This week I began looking into poster design and watching a few videos by The Futur with Chris Do, in these videos they take a poster designed by a student or junior designer and show the process of how to make it a striking piece of graphic design.
The posters I had been looking at were very eye-catching and had bold typography on them. I looked into breast cancer awareness campaigns and the poster designs usually rely heavily on bright, bold illustrations.
This in turn made me think more about layouts and potentially how I can turn my posters and book into more of a piece of graphic design rather than purely illustrations. I had a look at their guide on typography, Font & Feelings which showed the importance of the basic principles of graphic design.
I feel that if I try to make the cover of the book and the interior of the book in an illustrative style, it may appeal more to the younger target market. Although I want it to look feminine and professional, I want to steer away from making it look clinical or like something you would pick up in a hospital waiting room.
I also had a tutorial with my supervisors as this was the first meeting since the Easter break it was feedback, I needed to hear. They voiced their concerns about my blog and the fact that I have no design work to show as of yet as I was waiting for more participants to join in.
After speaking with my supervisors this made me realize, I need to start working with the participant I already have. As I have six participants the best way to begin working with them was to create mind maps for them based on their responses to my questions.
The mind maps were created by taking some keywords and concepts from their questionnaire responses. These included tattoo concepts, and desires each participant wished for. For example, Floral, delicate, feminine, and beautiful.
From these mind maps, I will be able to create a mood board for each participant to assist in the design process for their tattoos. This will be the main aim for next week to complete these mood boards.
