Week 14 Work Review

Writer's picture: Emily Mae ErnstzenEmily Mae Ernstzen

At the beginning of the week I conducted an interview with Louise, a breast cancer survivor who has been very helpful in assisting my project since the beginning, the original plan was to call or meet up for an interview but we conducted one via email instead.

Louise has been a strong connection to have since the beginning of the project, although she has no interest in being a participant in the final project her insights have been more than helpful throughout my whole process.

Louise was asked a series of questions and she gave some really insightful answers. I have outlined the transcription of this interview in a separate post. Although Louise is rather anti-tattoo, she believes she is anti-tattoo due to her age and maybe just a fear of tattoos and more pain.

This made me reconsider my target audience maybe to a younger generation as more people of younger ages have tattoos and would be more willing to potentially get tattoos. Through researching for my thesis, I had found a lot of information on younger generations getting tattooed.

I had publicized the questionnaire and had gotten a few responses, I initially hoped to get maybe 10 perhaps that were willing to share their stories. I feel this would be very beneficial to the overall creation of the book as more content would help to bulk out the book.

Although I had hoped for 10 due to the time restraints of this project it would be more advisable to work with the six participants that I have so far. This way I will be able to get some crucial feedback on the tattoo designs wit enough time for revisions.

I spent a good amount of time on Pinterest and looking at different design awards for book cover design. Although my work so far and prototypes have been very minimalist and very plain, black, and white, it made me consider should I go bright and bold for the cover. These are some general ideas that I will look further into once I have the interior complete as this should help me create a cohesive cover.

I aim to start working on a design for the cover and the layout in the following weeks. As of now, I will be working on creating mind maps and mood boards for each participant to help with the design process for their tattoo designs.
