Week 12 Work Review

Unfortunately, this week proved how difficult our new learning environment can really be. As I live in a rural countryside area and my internet connection can be a big let down at the best of times. As thousands of people are now working from home the internet providers have reduced connection speeds to keep up with the demand which unfortunately affects my work and my ability to have zoom calls etc.

This week I have been focused on researching and ideating new concepts for the new assessment criteria. Due to a lack of internet connection, I could not attend my online meeting so my supervisor had sent me an email.

In the email, my supervisor outlined some feedback in regard to my interview questions. She had suggested keeping the introduction of professional and factual by saying what my research project is in one concise sentence.

Other feedback suggested changing the order of the questions and leaving the option to answer open rather than having mandatory questions. She also mentioned avoiding leading and closed questions so people will gove their honest answers.

In closing, she had mentioned, that because I am focussing on the theme of 'Tattoos for empowerment', had I considered broadening the project outside of breast cancer to anyone who might have scars and consider tattoos to cover them? Through doing this might give me more scope to gather participants and could have share similar links to ideas around self-esteem, self-image, and tattoos for empowerment.

I had initially pitched the project concept as tattoos to empower, using tattoos to cover scarring but I had felt that it was too broad a topic which I felt would take away from the meaning of the project. For example, I see tattoos coving self-harm scars as a very different feel of topic compared to breast cancer scars being tattooed. They are both very sensitive natured topics but the logistics behind both are very different. She had also mentioned the new submission guidelines which had been published on moodle. There has been an update to deliverables and the major project assessment criteria as all students are now required to submit their work digitally.

We each have been asked to create a contingency plan which will show how we intend to complete our project under the new guidelines and assessment criteria. After the meeting, I started working on my contingency plan which I will discuss in detail in a separate post.

I will work on a new project timeline and complete my contingency plan next week whilst continuing on with my other tasks.
