Poster Design

The posters were initially for the backdrop of the exhibition as seen in the exhibition plan. I had planned to have 3 posters backing the exhibition, the aim of these were to promote the story behind the project. I wanted to capture peoples attention but also portray the projects message of empowerment, strength and beauty. This was to be achieved with simple illustrations or graphic pieces. After looking through some of the project work, the minimalistic theme was dragging the project down, I feel like keeping it plain was making it too clinical and boring. I decided to play with some simple illustrations and text.

Although these added a fun bright pop of colour to the project, it was definitely a low level of design. I was very unhappy with the designs and they sent more of a childish feel to the project which was not the aim, I needed to redesign the posters and keep certain key words in mind such as : eye catching, graphic, classy, feminine and powerful. I experimented with using a bold typeface and soft colour to send the message across and paired it with a very simple line illustration to give it the classy feminine feel, this line drawing was also to represent females, and the idea of the mannequins.

I really liked how these turned out, the illustration subtly hints that the "female/Mannequin" is single breasted to show the target group of the project. I felt like they needed more colour and contrast to help with readability. I then added a colour background and increased the saturation of the text to make it stand out, removing the letters from the illustration helps with clarity issues from the previous designs.

I decided to add tattoos to the illustrations to combine all the elements of the project into the posters. I created a 3 part series which each have their separate element to the project, each containing a different keyword, Empowered, Beautiful and Strength. Overall I was very happy with these final designs and I feel like they would help covey the story and catch peoples attention.
